Ambitious by default.
Curious about everything.

I’m Yrieix, a first-year BBA student at HKUST. I left Paris for Hong Kong because I wanted to learn somewhere unfamiliar and make a direction of my own. Financial markets, the maths behind them, and the questions that connect an idea to the real world keep me curious.

CURIOSITY DOESN’T SIT STILL

Neither does this little thing.

01 / INSIDE MY HEAD

Ambition has exceeded the recommended settings.

AMBITION. ABSOLUTELY NOT TO SCALE.
The plan is ambitious. The spreadsheet is open.
Self-assessment. Suspiciously optimistic.
DETERMINATION CHECK

Current plan: keep going.

0 obstacles introduced. Motivation is minding its own business.
02 / WHERE I’M HEADING

Markets, maths,
and making things happen.

I’m at the beginning of my studies, so I’m not pretending to have every answer. These are the questions that keep pulling me further into maths, markets and practical projects.

01

How prices happen.

A price looks like a single number, but I want to understand the decisions, information and uncertainty behind it. That is what draws me to financial markets, market microstructure and, eventually, quantitative research. I’m building the foundations before claiming to know the answers.

What I’m exploring +

How information, trading and uncertainty fit together — while building the mathematics, economics and statistics foundations to study them properly.

02

Make the maths make sense.

A thought. Then a tangent.

Advanced Mathematics gave me difficult problems to work through; co-founding a peer tutoring initiative made me explain those problems to someone else. I found that explaining a step clearly often shows whether I really understand it. That habit still shapes how I learn.

Where it started +

At Victor-Duruy High School, I helped students work through mathematics. I’m now building on that quantitative foundation and my early Python experience at HKUST.

03

Give the idea a reality check.

GridReady began with a business question that could not be answered without looking at infrastructure: where could a data centre actually get power? Our team turned that question into a prototype and won the hackathon. I liked having to make an idea useful, not just interesting.

What the project asks +

A promising site still needs power. The prototype explores grid constraints and estimated upgrades so that a business discussion starts with better questions.

02.5 / THE ROUTE SO FAR

From Paris
to Hong Kong.

01 / THE ROOTS

The questions started in Paris.

At Victor-Duruy High School, I chose Mathematics and HGGSP, with Advanced Mathematics. They taught me to look at a question from more than one angle: the numbers, the context and the assumptions behind both. Paris was where I learned to ask those questions.

YES, I REALLY DID CHOOSE MORE MATHS.
02 / THE DECISION

I chose to go further.

Paris gave me a strong starting point, but I wanted to see what I could learn somewhere unfamiliar. Hong Kong meant leaving familiar routines behind and finding my own way forward.

FARTHER FROM HOME. CLOSER TO THE PATH I WANTED.
03 / A NEW START

A new place, new questions.

Moving across the world did not give me a perfect plan. It gave me a chance to adapt, meet different perspectives and make one. At HKUST, I am building a business foundation while exploring markets, mathematics and projects that turn questions into something concrete.

PARIS DAUPHINE–PSL · PSL #1 IN FRANCE, THE 2027

I turned down France’s No. 1 university.

I am French. Studying at the other end of the world was a deliberate choice, not an accidental detour.

THE OFFER · PARISUniversité Paris Dauphine–PSLSciences des organisations
MY CHOICE · HONG KONGHKUST Business SchoolBBA · a new city, a new start

After high school, I received an offer for Sciences des organisations at Université Paris Dauphine–PSL. I did not turn it down lightly: it was a serious opportunity, and Dauphine is a constituent institution of PSL. In the 2027 Times Higher Education ranking, PSL is the highest-ranked French university. I chose the BBA at HKUST instead.

I could have stayed in a city whose academic and social codes I already knew. In Hong Kong, I would have to rebuild everyday habits, make connections from scratch and listen to perspectives I might never have encountered in Paris. That distance was part of the point.

I am still at the beginning of that journey. I do not claim that moving abroad automatically makes me different; I chose it because it asks more of me, every day, and gives me room to shape a path of my own.

I wanted the next step to feel chosen, not automatic.

GridReady

Before building a data centre, there’s a less glamorous question: can the grid actually power it?

With my team, we built GridReady: a prototype exploring electrical feasibility in Hong Kong. It uses a simplified public-data model to compare grid constraints and potential upgrades. We won the hackathon with this project.

MY CONTRIBUTION

From the question to the solution.

I helped choose the problem our team would tackle and played a substantial part in shaping the solution we proposed. That meant asking which question was worth a weekend of work and how a useful answer could be shown clearly. I also helped design the GridReady website, which presents the prototype and the reasoning behind it.

Ideas need energy. So do data centres.
Business problemEnergy & infrastructurePrototype
Take a closer look +

The question
How can an early site decision account for grid constraints?

The approach
A simplified model built from public maps and published information. It explores simulated grid demand and compares potential upgrades before a site commitment.

What it puts on the table
Capacity constraints, overloaded equipment and upgrade options with estimated cost and duration. The goal is to make an early feasibility conversation more concrete.

The result
A working team prototype, a project presentation and a hackathon win in Hong Kong, October 2026.

The boundary
Capacity and cost figures are estimates. This is a prototype, not an engineering assessment.

04 / LEARNING BY DOING

A few places
I’ve started asking questions.

My early placements let me see how different organisations actually work. The student roles that followed gave me more chances to explain ideas, guide discussions and learn with other people.

2023 · PARIS

Intern

Mediawan

During a one-week placement across three Mediawan sites, I discovered how many different people contribute to a film, series or animation. I was introduced to legal and finance functions and to the work that takes a project from development and pre-production, through production and post-production, to its presentation and sale.

Meeting people at different points in that chain helped me see the creative, operational and business decisions behind what finally reaches an audience. The finished project is only the visible part of a much larger collaboration.

2024 · PARIS

Legal Intern

Christine Le Foyer de Costil

My placement with Christine Le Foyer de Costil introduced me to the everyday rhythm of a Paris law practice. I saw how a legal question begins with understanding the facts, researching the relevant rules and preparing an argument that can be explained clearly.

I was there to observe and learn. What stayed with me was the precision behind work that may look straightforward from the outside: a small detail can change how a problem is understood, and a good answer has to be both careful and clear.

Debate and Public Speaking Club · Victor-Duruy High School

As a senior member and session facilitator, I took part in debates and helped sessions run at Victor-Duruy. Preparing an argument was only half the work; I also had to listen, respond to opposing views and adjust when a discussion went somewhere unexpected. That made me more attentive to how an idea is expressed and how it is received.

Academic specialization choices

I helped younger students understand the Première specialization options and think through what each path might mean for them. I did not want to decide in their place. I tried to make the choices clearer, answer questions honestly and share what I had learned from making my own academic decisions.

Peer tutoring · Victor-Duruy High School

I co-founded a peer mathematics tutoring initiative and worked through problems with other students. We focused on the reasoning behind each step, rather than only the final answer. Explaining a method to someone else also pushed me to check my own understanding and find a clearer way to communicate it.

Model United Nations

As committee chair, I led debates, managed proceedings and helped delegates exchange views within the rules of Model United Nations. I had to keep the discussion moving while giving different positions room to be heard. It brought together preparation, public speaking and the ability to stay composed when a debate changed direction.

AWAY FROM THE SPREADSHEET

Rowing. Lacrosse. Golf.
Probably thinking about markets.

Portrait of Yrieix Brissard
PROOF I LEAVE THE SPREADSHEET SOMETIMES.

I like following a question until it becomes something I can explain, test or build on.

Markets and quantitative research interest me because they sit between mathematics, human decisions and uncertainty. I am building on the Python I first used in high school and a strong interest in maths, while learning the fundamentals of business at HKUST.

At Victor-Duruy High School in Paris, I also spent time tutoring maths, debating, chairing Model United Nations discussions and helping younger students think through academic choices. Those experiences taught me that understanding something and explaining it well are different skills. I enjoy both the quiet work of solving a problem and the conversation that makes me reconsider my first answer.

Choosing Hong Kong was an extension of that curiosity. I wanted to discover a place far from the one I knew and learn what happens when I have to make my own way through it.
